Glean Pride 2023 Round Up 🎉
What a year 2023 has been. The year that saw King Charles’ coronation and Rihanna performing at the Super Bowl. But what about The Glean Pride Group?

Back in February, we celebrated LGBTQ+ History Month. The Pride Group’s Lunch & Learn shone a light on a variety of inspiring figures, ranging from the Archaic Greek poet Sappho, born over 2500 years ago in 630 BC, all the way through to the 20th and 21st centuries with Harvey Milk and David Hockney respectively.
It was a super engaging session with the whole Glean Team, and we plan to do it all again next year with a fresh new perspective.
2023 also saw the first of our Movie Nights, an opportunity for anyone to sit and enjoy a chosen film after work in the office. Plenty of popcorn and rearranging of the office sofas later we finished the year watching My Beautiful Laundrette, My Policeman and But I’m a Cheerleader. More to follow next year for sure.
Now, this couldn’t be a Pride Group 2023 round up without mentioning Pride itself! In August, two of our star group members took part in a panel discussion focused on Pride in Tech: LGBTQ+ Inclusion in the Workplace. Our magnificent Gwen hosted whilst Mark, our group founder, spoke on the panel. Mark & Gwen were also joined by allies and friends from Northcoders and BJSS.
And that brings us to Pride itself, an incredible event that really does bring the whole city and community of Leeds together. Before the main event, we got crafty, making some rather fabulous tie-dye t-shirts at the office with the support of some budding Gleansters. We had our place in the parade, so we wanted to make sure we were looking our best!
That brings us to the parade itself, what a day! We went bigger and better than the previous year, with our very own Glean Band playing alongside us. Nearly 50 of us were part of the parade made up of the Glean Pride Group, Gleansters and friends and family, many experiencing their first ever Pride.
But it’s not all about the events we attend and host, we also want to raise awareness and support various causes. We helped raise money for the National Aids Trust at the start of December, and throughout the year we have shared stories and raised awareness for days and causes such as Asexual awareness and Non-binary day.
We hope to highlight more going into 2024 and can’t wait to see what next year brings - we’ve certainly got an action packed calendar already.
Happy Holidays from us all here at The Glean Pride Group!
